Soak the Minonokuni 4000 grit whetstone in water for about 5–10 minutes, or until air bubbles stop rising from the stone. This allows the stone to absorb enough water for proper sharpening performance without oversaturating it.
Because 4000 grit stones are designed for refining and polishing an edge rather than heavy material removal, they typically require less soaking time than coarse sharpening stones. Do not store the stone in water permanently, as prolonged soaking can weaken the bonding material and shorten the life of the whetstone.
