A wavy edge knife, often referred to as a serrated knife, features a blade with a series of tooth-like projections along its cutting edge. This design allows it to easily cut through tough or fibrous materials, such as bread, or meats with a crust, by using a sawing motion. The wavy edge helps maintain sharpness over time, reducing the need for frequent sharpening. This edge also works extremely well for thick skinned fruits that have a soft interior like tomatoes. A regular smooth edge can actually be too sharp to properly bite into a tomato's smooth skin, so a wavy or serrated edge is the best choice for making clean slices without squishing the fruit.
